5 Home Remedies for Healthier Hair

Heathy hair doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when you take the time to care for your hair and scalp. In some cases, this might mean joining us at LH Hair, and asking about topical solutions, laser hair restoration, and other procedures. In other cases, though, proper hair care can be done at home. In fact, there are some excellent home remedies that can be used to treat dry, brittle, or thinning hair—providing you with the full, healthy hair you’ve been wanting.

Here are five home remedies that we recommend trying.

Do a Green Tea Rinse

Sometimes, your hair isn’t as healthy as it could be simply because you’ve allowed a buildup of dirt and debris, and regular shampooing can’t fix it. Here’s what we recommend: Get some fresh, organic green tea—nothing with added sugars. Brew it, then let it cool. Get into the shower and shampoo your hair like normal, and when you’re done, rinse your hair with the green tea. It will provide a deep cleaning that store-bought shampoos just can’t match!

Put a Humidifier in Your Room

In other cases, hair is damaged simply because of the environment—for instance, if your home is particularly dry, it can lead to dry, brittle hair. This is an especially common problem during the winter months. There is a really simple solution, though: Just don’t let the air in your home be so dry. Get a humidifier for your bedroom, and run it during night. A vaporizer will also work.

Apply Natural Oils to Your Hair

Is your hair brittle or over-processed? An easy, natural fix for this is to get some natural oil—either olive or coconut—and apply a few drops to your hair. Mix it in, let it sit for about half an hour, and then wash it out in the shower. (Don’t worry—these natural oils will shampoo out easily.) The soothing effects of natural oils cannot be overstated!

Crack an Egg

Bear with us on this one: Often, the reason hair is damaged or unhealthy is because the proteins that make up your hair have become impaired somehow. You can restore those proteins with something as simple as an egg! Grab a small egg, crack it, and mix it in with some shampoo. Use the egg/shampoo mix to wash your hair, massaging the scalp for a few minutes and then rinsing thoroughly.

Ease Off the Appliances

You might also consider using hot hair appliances less frequently, as these can really dry and damage what’s on your head. Instead of blow drying your hair, wrap it in a towel, sop up the moisture, then let it air dry from there. Also try to forgo the hot irons, curlers, etc. if you can!

So there you go: A few simple and straightforward ways to enhance the health of your hair. Give some of these solutions a try—but if you need a consult with a professional, we invite you to join us at LH Hair.
