Do You Show Signs of Male Pattern Baldness?

Men can lose their hair for any number of reasons. Sometimes, the specific cause is pretty easy to determine; if you’re undergoing chemotherapy, or if you’re taking a medication that’s known to cause hair loss, that eliminates the guesswork. In other cases, though, the cause is tougher to determine—yet doing so is an essential step in deciding on the best course of treatment.

That’s what makes it important to come down for an evaluation from one of our hair care professionals who can help you figure out why you’re losing your hair and what you can do to reverse the process. One thing you’ll definitely talk about with your technician is male pattern baldness—by far the leading cause of male hair loss.

Indeed, if you know you’re not losing your hair due to chemotherapy or some other medical condition, you might just assume male pattern baldness is the culprit—but how can you be sure?

The Signs of Male Pattern Baldness

Again, if you don’t know of any other external causes for your hair loss, male pattern baldness is probably the best bet. You might also note that it is a hereditary condition, and if you’ve known other men in your family line to suffer from hair loss then that might reinforce this diagnosis.

Something else to understand is that male pattern baldness tends to cause hair thinning in some particular formations. In male pattern baldness, the hair loss tends to begin in one of two places—either at the temples, or at the crown of the head. In some cases, men end up with a single bald spot. In other cases, the hair recedes on either side, leaving a M-shape of hair on the head. That M-shape is a giveaway that male pattern baldness is what you’re dealing with. In some of the more extreme cases, the hair will continue to thin out even from there, leaving the man with no hair on his head at all.

Who is Affected by Male Pattern Baldness?

Again, this is a condition that impacts a wide number of men, and it can impact men from all ages and backgrounds. In fact, male pattern baldness can sometimes begin in the teen years. More commonly, it begins in the late 20s or early 30s, and the chances and severity of it increase with age.
